Abortion Opposition – One Step Forward, Two Steps Back?

Immediately on the heel of a stellar turnout for Evangelicals for Life and March for Life in spite of snowy and freezing weather, and Sanctity of Life Sunday last weekend, Monday appeared to usher several blows for those who oppose abortion. First, the Harris County District Attorney’s office announced that a regional franchise of Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, has been surprisingly cleared following a two-month-long investigation into the harvesting and selling of tissue from aborted fetuses and that instead two undercover videographers associated with the Center for Medical Progress were indicted for wrongdoing.[1][2] In addition, the Supreme Court blocked North Dakota’s fetal heartbeat law from taking affect by announcing it will not review a lower court’s decision.[3] What are we to do in light of these apparent set backs? Forging a Sword: Scripture Memorization


Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Ephesians 6:4, Psalm 78:1-8, and many other Scripture references make it clear that God expects us to teach our children about Him by teaching them His Word. We need to teach our children the spiritual discipline of Scripture memory. Scripture is the only offensive weapon we have in the spiritual battle – the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). Scripture is the sword Jesus used to parry the temptations of Satan in the desert (Matthew 4:1-11). Moreover, Psalm 119:11 attests that memorizing Scripture helps keep one from sin.
